Is medical termination of pregnancy legal in India?
Yes. Termination is permitted under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act within the gestational limits and conditions specified by law, when carried out by a registered medical practitioner at an approved facility. The applicable legal framework is explained during consultation.
Is the consultation confidential?
Yes. Consultations are private and medical information is kept confidential in line with professional and legal obligations.
What is the difference between medical and surgical termination?
Medical termination uses prescribed medication and is an option in early pregnancy. Surgical termination is a short procedure carried out at the hospital. Which is appropriate depends on gestational age and individual medical circumstances, and is decided after assessment.
What follow-up care is provided?
A review is arranged to confirm that the process is complete and that recovery is progressing normally. Contraception counselling is offered, and support is available for any questions afterwards.
What is a D&C procedure?
Dilatation and curettage is a short procedure to evacuate the uterine cavity. It is performed for several reasons, including after an incomplete miscarriage or to obtain tissue for diagnosis. What it involves and why it is being advised is explained beforehand.
